Abstract: (7 Views)
The copper industry, as a pivotal sector of Iran’s economy, plays a significant role in the country’s economic development. This study aims to investigate the impact of Iran’s copper production—particularly the activities of the National Iranian Copper Industries Company (NICICO)—on key economic development indicators, including gross domestic product (GDP), employment generation, and export earnings. Employing a simultaneous equations system methodology and utilizing annual time-series data from 1981 to 2024 (1360–1403 in the Persian calendar), the research draws on official sources such as the Central Bank of Iran, the Statistical Center of Iran, and NICICO’s annual reports. The findings indicate that copper production exerts a statistically significant positive effect on both GDP and the Human Development Index (as a proxy for economic development). However, due to constraints imposed by international sanctions, its impact on net export earnings remains limited.
