Background and Purpose: The banking system, as one of the main pillars of the country's economic infrastructure, plays a key role in resource allocation, supporting production, and maintaining financial stability. Its efficiency depends not only on legal and regulatory mechanisms but also on governance quality and managerial competencies. From an Islamic perspective, management is linked to values such as justice, trustworthiness, responsibility, and service to the public. This study aims to explain the consequences of implementing a managerial competency model based on superior governance with an Islamic approach in Iran’s banking system, enhancing its ethical and financial integrity, trust, efficiency, and sustainability.
Methodology: This qualitative study adopts an interpretive paradigm and employs thematic analysis to analyze the data. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with thirteen purposively selected managers and experts, continuing until data saturation. To validate the model, external review and methodological triangulation were applied.
Findings and Conclusion: The findings indicate that the consequences of implementing the managerial competency model based on superior governance in Iran’s banking system are organized into three overarching themes and thirteen organizing themes: Managerial outcomes: improved decision-making skills, human capability development, enhanced professional ethics and spiritual intelligence, strengthened value orientation and responsibility; Organizational outcomes: increased productivity and innovation, transparency, strengthened accountability system, implementation of a divine worldview; Society-oriented outcomes: public trust in the banking system, sustainable financial and economic development, enhanced competitiveness, compliance with international governance standards, and proactive goal achievement (“Jihad of Realization”).Overall, the results suggest that institutionalizing a managerial competency model based on superior governance with an Islamic approach can promote ethical and financial integrity, managerial efficiency, and sustainability aligned with divine values and public welfare in Iran’s banking system.
